Clickatell Helping InSTEDD to Enable Life-Saving Wireless Communication in Developing Countries
SMS Partnership Facilitates Real-Time Chat, Data Reporting and Alerting

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — August 14, 2012 — Clickatell, a leading mobile messaging provider, renewed its commitment to work with InSTEDD (Innovative Support to Emergencies Diseases and Disasters) to leverage wireless communication tools to solve the world’s greatest humanitarian challenges.

Through this partnership, InSTEDD leverages Clickatell’s short code messaging service to enable health and humanitarian organizations in developing countries to quickly respond to events affecting their health and safety, such as disease outbreaks and natural disasters.

InSTEDD has engaged Clickatell to facilitate projects ranging from implementing an appointment reminder system for HIV/AIDS patients in Cambodia to disaster relief coordination after the infamous 2010 Haiti earthquake to supporting health workers in Mexico through text messaging of life-saving information for their patients.

The non-profit also advises organizations such as the United Nations, the World Health Organization and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control on the strategic implementation of health information systems and collaboration technology ventures.

As a non-profit, InSTEDD needs to ensure that its short code messaging provider is cost effective and scalable. After evaluating five vendors, InSTEDD selected Clickatell’s shortcode messaging service based on the company’s competitive pricing as well as its broad presence throughout the world.

As the world’s largest online SMS mobile messaging service, Clickatell’s messaging gateway allows its customers to send messages to almost any mobile phone in the world across 819 mobile networks in more than 220 countries.

“The ability to maintain communication during a disaster, or wirelessly connect with outside doctors while treating patients in a rural community, can literally mean the difference between life and death and SMS has been instrumental in helping us close those communication gaps,” said Eduardo Jezierski, InSTEDD Chief Technology Officer. “Clickatell’s pricing and worldwide reach first drew us to the company, but its exceptional customer support and rapid provisioning of international numbers have far exceeded our expectations and we look forward to continued collaboration.”

“When it absolutely has to be there, regardless of device, time of day, type of network, people turn to SMS. This is why InSTEDD selected text messaging as their foundation for critical communication.” said Pieter de Villiers, Clickatell CEO. “We are excited to play a part in this revolutionary, life-saving service and we hope to continue our relationship with InSTEDD for years to come.”

Through its partnership with Clickatell, InSTEDD has been able to provide a number of life-saving solutions including real-time chat, data reporting and alerting. Nearly four years after the organizations first collaborated, InSTEDD is now looking to partner with Clickatell to further expand low-cost mobile services for eHealth in Asia and Africa.
