The Malaria Day Zero Alert System is a web-based application that enables health center staff (HC) and village malaria workers (VMW) in villages to report malaria cases via SMS text alerts to the Malaria Day Zero Alert System. By? collaborating with The National Center for Parasitology, Entomology and Malaria Control in national level that formerly called National Malaria Centre (CNM) and fund by Malaria Consortium (MC), Malaria Day Zero Alert System was started pilot in Kampot, Kampong Cham and Siem Reap province of Cambodia since August 2011.
In efforts to erradicate malaria in Cambodia, the Day-3 reporting model (SMS reporting based on FrontlineSMS software) has proven to be an effective mechanism for reporting cases via SMS. Because the Day-3 model has been successful, InSTEDD has decided to help scale up Day-0 reporting for all Plasmodium falciparum (P.f) cases from Village Malaria Workers (VMWs) and health facilities. Since the number of cases will be higher for Day-0 than Day-3 reporting, and given the likely need for widespread implementation of Day-0 reporting, InSTEDD has decided to move to a more robust Internet-based platform.
