InSTEDD Launches iLab Latin America to Work at the Intersection of Technology and Sustainable Development in Latin America
PALO ALTO, CA – April 12 2011 — InSTEDD, an international non-profit, in partnership with Manas, a Buenos Aires- based software development and consulting firm, announced today that they are launching iLab Latin America in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The iLab Latin America team will work withNGOs, governments, social entrepreneurs and other organizations focused on public health, education, agriculture and safety within Latin America to build and optimize technological capacity to support their humanitarian work.
“iLab Latin America builds on the work that InSTEDD has been doing in Southeast Asia since 2007 to build local technological capacity to address health, safety and development problems,” said InSTEDD CEO Dr. Dennis Israelski. “With a strong Latin American partner in Manas, we will be working at the intersection of technology and sustainable development to help our partners to use technology to enhance collaboration and improve information flow and knowledge sharing.”
In addition to providing collaboration technology consulting services to its partners, the iLab Latin America will serve as a research and innovation space where public and private organizations across Latin America will have the opportunity to proactively channel their questions and concerns in regards to social and humanitarian matters that would benefit from the implementation of information technology.
“Based on a regional analysis of the challenges and opportunities in the use of technology in Latin America to address health and development issues, we’ve found that there’s a strong imbalance between the private and social sectors,” said Nicolás Di Tada, InSTEDD’s Director of Platform Technology, who has been spearheading the iLab Latin America effort. “We’re launching iLab Latin America to help address this critical gap.”
